How we met
This passage from my Primary School English Book in Ndu never meant anything to me until 2011, at the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC), in an encounter that was hitherto to define the rest of my life. Walking up that hill in Obili, pondering what the next lecture will be like, I noticed a stunning lady with a picturesque smile at the school restaurant. I braced the courage typical of a wimbum man to attempt, if not to conquer, this beautiful lady. But this first attempt only rewarded me with her name, Lombe, and a phone number. I left to fight another day.
Blossoming of love
It wasn't long before I learnt from a friend that Lombe had left for the U.K. to further her studies, even without saying goodbye. Many years rolled by as I also journeyed for the quest of knowledge and greener pastures. In January 2024, as fate would have it, our paths crossed again in the most unexpected and uncommon places in the world: Juba, South Sudan. On the same day she arrived in Juba, she met me at a popular eatery on the River Nile. Apparently, the mountain had come to Mohammed. I didn't hesitate to continue from where I ended in 2011, but this time with more resolve and tenacity. We chatted about nothing and everything, recounting our days in IRIC and life's hustle. When she gave me her phone number in Juba, the old number from IRIC and her name popped up in my phone: I still had that phone number from the first attempt. Some things in life are worth keeping. Our first date was at a rooftop restaurant, and love was on the menu. Five months later, we started dating and I immediately knew that my bachelorhood days were numbered. In the words of Shakespeare in Hamlet, Act 3, Scene 1; patience is a virtue, everything good comes to those who wait.

The proposal
To some, proposals are planned, to many they are not. I belong to the latter category. In December of the same year, a Christmas party that was meant to reunite and reconnect with old friends and family in Yaounde became a perfect spot for me to take the kneel.......and she said YES😊...To Be Continued.
